COMMONWEALTH GAMES

Going into its 21st year, the Coventry Commonwealth Games of Virginia, is known throughout Virginia as Virginia's Olympics. With its tagline of "Inspiring wellness & competition," the Coventry Commonwealth Games represent the true spirit of amateur athletics.

The Coventry Games are more than sports events; they go far deeper. Much like the primary mission of “First Tee,” the Games teach values such as teamwork and good sportsmanship, which are life-enhancing values. The Games encourage athletes to develop and improve their physical talent and competitive abilities. Additionally, the ideals of the Games promote physical fitness and encourage Virginians to adopt a healthy lifestyle, which includes exercise.

The Coventry Commonwealth Games provide competitions in over 55 sports, including a Junior Golf event. This competition targets golfers 18 and under for a 36-hole tournament. The golfers will hit the course for this two-day, stroke play championship. It will feature some of the state’s top golfers as they drive, chip, and putt for gold, silver, and bronze medals. Games Director, Owen Grogan believes the Junior Golf competition is “a great opportunity for young golfers to experience a two-day tournament event with the challenges, rewards and educational value it brings.”

The competition will take place at Hanging Rock Golf Course on Sunday July 18th and Monday July 19th. The registration fee is $25 per golfer and the deadline to register is July 2, 2010.
